Kites and Clams and Castles, Oh My!

Lemme at it! The coast water was abnormally warm.

It's good to be brothers

We took a spontaneous trip to the Oregon Coast yesterday to visit our friends the Wrights (http://thewrightthingstodo.blogspot.com/). After a short 75 minute drive we found the perfect day - party sunny, 60-ish, a bit of wind and 5 kids that had the most fun together. Nate worked on a sand castle creation and was excited to find some unbroken sand dollars. The kids also fed seagulls and flew Nate's new kite that he got for his birthday. We found a fish washed up on the beach that may have been still alive until a huge eagle swooped in from nowhere and snatched the fish away (Tracey and I had our backs turned and thought Nate was telling a tall tale until we noticed an eagle with a fish flying away from the beach).
Later in the day, we went a bit farther north to a different beach were Tracey's hubby Ron did some clam digging. He found a shrimp to show the kids and about a dozen razor clams while digging in the surf. Ron is a pro - he grew up at the coast so this seemed second nature to him. I only spent a few minutes in the surf with him, but I didn't see a thing. I hope to get back again and try it another time before the season is over!
